About Tatamy, Pennsylvania
The Borough is in Northampton County about 5 miles north of the City of Easton. It is located on the west bank of the Bushkill Creek. The origin of Tatamy can be traced back to the early 1800's and a Delaware indian Chief named Moses Tunda Tatamy. Chief Tatamy acted as an interpreter for white settlers that where doing business with the Delaware Indians of New Jersey and also helped to control these Indians. Moses Tatamy was a private landowner, interpreter, Presbyterian convert, and a help to missionaries, Quakers and colonial officials of Pennsylvania. For his help the Penn family gave Tatamy a 300 acre grant of land which was located on the west side of the west branch of Bushkill Creek from the present boundry of Tatamy northward to the northern limits of Stockertown. The land grant was called "Tatamy's Land".
