Easton was founded in the 1750's at the confluence of the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers. On July 8th 1776, Easton was one of only three areas in the country where the Declaration of Indepence was read to the public. This historic event is celebrated each year on Heritage Day.
The city was designed in a grid radiating from The Great Square, now known as Centre Square. In 1829, the canal was completed and attracted large industrial development to the city located at the fork of the rivers. One of the largest industrial areas in the country was located in Easton during the 1830s and 40s.
The pictures on this page are all properties located within a few blocks from the square (center city).
Centre Square in Easton
Centre Square was the site of the original court house. Now, it contains a monument dedicated to all of the armed forces who fought in the Civil War. It was dedicated to local veterans in 1900.
Many of the businesses around the square have been restored to their original historic form. A Buyer of Easton Real Estate has to take into account location as well as historical value and how that may affect any future plans.
Real Estate in the City of Easton, just like the Historic Homes in Bethlehem, has houses built during all of the different home building eras yet Bethlehem and Easton have a very different look and feel.
